But what if you commissioned a hand-drawn wedding monogram, or your business has its own logo? When our clipart just doesn’t cut it, uploading your own custom art is the answer. Let’s walk through a couple dos and don’ts for uploading custom art, as well as answer your most commonly asked questions!

To get the best results for your custom party supplies, it’s necessary to consider what the end product will be, because that will affect what kind of file you should upload. The main difference in print files types is between raster and vector files. A raster graphic is made up of individual pixels, which are arranged as squares on a grid, with each square having its own separate color. If you’ve ever zoomed in on a photo and noticed it becoming “pixely” at a high degree of zoom, that’s a raster image! All photos, for example, are raster images, since a raster is needed to capture the wide ranges and subtle variances in color present in a photo. This is the print file used if your art is a photo

In contrast, a vector image is made up of purely shapes and points, meaning that they can be scaled up or down infinitely without any loss in quality. Vector files are the best for our foil stamped products.

With that, let’s get into a couple of the most common questions that we get surrounding custom art.

Yes! Custom art costs $50 extra to use. If you use the same custom art within 9 months of your first order, the fee will be refunded. However, we aren’t able to refund before checkout—you’ll have to pay the fee, your designer will review the order, and then you’ll be refunded.

For the most part, the only combinations you should avoid are ones that you don’t like the look of. However, some color combinations are prone to filling in. Fill-in happens when the foil that gets used for your art bleeds and runs as it cools, in some cases obscuring very small details in your art.

In particular, matte white and matte ivory foil can fill in, so it’s something to keep in mind if you’re uploading art with lots of fine details, or want to avoid your small text filling in. Art and text with very small negative spaces (like the triangle in the top of a capital “A”) is especially prone to filling in. When in doubt, ask your designer—they’re there to make sure your order prints as cleanly as possible!

Make sure that your original file isn’t in white! If your art is in white, it will show up as very thin outlines in the customizer. Even if you want your final product printed in white, your uploaded art has to be in black.

Unfortunately, we don’t make custom art for individual clients from scratch. On a case-by-case basis, we are able to make very minimal edits to your art—think resizing bits of text rather than redrawing the art itself.
