Hello there! I’m a Hoosier girl; for those of you who don’t know, that’s what you call people from Indiana! I grew up in a suburb of Indianapolis. As soon as I was able, I began taking classes at the nearby Herron School of Art and Design. There I received my BA in fine arts with a concentration in printmaking. Soon after, my then boyfriend (now fiancè) and I decided to give the Windy City a chance and moved here for some adventure. This led me to a position on the production end of our company. Which then gave me the opportunity to become an FYP Production Designer. Obviously, I took it!
How would you describe your design style? What are your current favorite font combinations?
My design style is a modern take on a classic feel. I love a serif block font paired with a script font, such as our Mrs. Eaves Petite Caps with Altast Greeting. The combination of a traditional and bold typeface with another traditional but more whimsical script feels timeless. I love using this classic duo on our more subdued product colors, such as one of my favorite combos—poptone Olive paper with Shiny Rose Gold foil.
Describe your perfect Saturday?
My ideal day would begin with working in my home studio, printing or drawing something for a new project. Followed by walking Wendy (my dog) and then stopping by a comic book shop. Next, it’s time for lunch at Wyler Road; their Italian sandwiches are fantastic. Finally, I like to wind down playing board games with friends or watching scary movies while cuddling Olive (my cat).
What’s your favorite FYP product?
I personally love our Truffle Favor Boxes! They’re adorable, great quality and, true to their name, perfect for truffles or any small candy. The ideal party favor for all of your guests with a sweet tooth!
Where do you get inspiration?
I get inspiration from a lot of places. Comics are always a great source for color and reference images, entertaining to boot! I also follow a lot of printmakers on social media and try to stop by local print shops whenever I have a moment. The Chicago Printmakers Collaborative (CPC) is a great place for inspiration, especially during their annual small print show! The walls are always plastered with beautiful work from local and international printmakers.
If you were a dog, what breed would you be?
If I were a dog, I’d be a Labrador Retriever. Growing up we always had dogs around and, more often than not, they were labs. They’re loyal friends, always eager to please and over the moon when you finally get home!
What’s your favorite travel destination?
I have not traveled much outside of the Midwest. So, for now, my favorite travel destination is to the Virginias. I love the trip there, though it is a long one, and the view is astounding. I always have a great time there visiting family!
What’s your favorite Chicago restaurant?
Though I love Wyler Road, my favorite Chicago restaurant has to be the bopNgrill. WARNING: The kimchi fries are dangerous and will haunt you! My go-to entree is the BBQ Chicken Plate, great for tonight’s dinner and tomorrow’s lunch. Even their side salad is delicious—the ginger dressing is so tasty!
