After growing up in Park Ridge, Illinois, I gravitated toward attending college in the nearby Windy City. Ultimately, I chose the University of Illinois at Chicago, where it didn’t take long to fall in love with the hustle and bustle of the city. Here, I was lucky to spend four years growing an artistic practice as a Fine Arts major at the College of Art and Architecture. My passion for art and design lead me in the pursuit of a graphic design position after graduation, and happily, I found one here at For Your Party!
How would you describe your design style?
My design style favors bright, bold colors and simplicity. I think that color, both on its own or curated, can inspire and intrigue us. Incidentally, color was the driving force behind the creation of one of our site’s newest offerings—FYP’s lovely Watercolor Napkins! Starting from prototypes I hand painted, the watercolor design is printed onto the napkins overseas exclusively for FYP using an old school technique called flexographic printing. Flexo printing is essentially a form of letterpress that starts with an image and uses a flexible relief plate to transfer the image. Overall, the process makes for a unique and trendy product, perfect for a fun summer party!
What are your current favorite font combinations?
While there are so many great fonts to choose from on our site, when building a custom product my favorite font combination is Nickainley and Netura. It’s a nice combination of simple lines and a playful script!
Describe your perfect Saturday?
If I had to describe my perfect Saturday it might look quite similar to the infamous 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (Minus the red Ferrari convertible. Darn!) I might start by exploring one of Chicago’s great museums like the Art Institute and, if I was lucky, make it to the ballpark to watch the World Series Champs, our Cubs! (hey, batter-batter!)
What is your favorite FYP product?
My favorite FYP product is the Candle Matchbox. I’m fond of all the matchbox shapes and styles, but the Candle shape is very sleek and simple. Classic and nostalgic, it is definitely a great personalized wedding favor. And also available in watercolor paper!
Where do you get inspiration?
Inspiration for me is found by seeing combinations of color, texture, shape or dimension that I haven’t seen before. The things that seem the least familiar, wherever they are found, inspire me the most. I love visiting design blogs and platforms where people express their creativity. I also enjoy finding inspiration in nature; I think it’s all relative and all exciting!
What’s your favorite travel destination?
My favorite place I have traveled is La Jolla, California. I went here as part of a trip I made last summer to explore the west coast. From beautiful cliffs to happy seals, La Jolla is packed with beauty and lush plants that left me delighted and inspired.
What’s your favorite Chicago restaurant?
My favorite Chicago restaurant is the Waterfront Café located lakeside in Rogers Park. A sucker for a great view, the Café looks out on serene Lake Michigan and offers yummy bites like fish ‘n chips, burgers and wings. (Yum!)
